The depth

The clear contrasts between light and dark certainly give the picture a "harsh" look, but it is also the positioning of the darkness and the light that gives it balances and movement. Like natural lighting, the dark is nearer to the botom of the picture, which people might associate with hell, or a disturbed mindset, or earthly qualities. However, the slashing patterns give the impression that there is movement, not just up and down, but also to either side (just not as much), as though something from the dark was clawing up, or the light is trying to escape. The peculair, unidentifiable white streak is an interesting touch. It breaks up what could be an interesting, but not very individualistic work. This odd "misplaced" white streak serves almost the same purpose as the white circle in the dark side of Yang. It could be a resident of the dark trying to escape, or a resident of the light coming into teh dark, or something completely different. In all, I really like this picture (like all of your work).
